Ypsilanti City Manager Ralph Lange has chosen interim Police Chief Tony DiGiusti to serve as Chief on a permanent basis starting next month.

DiGiusti was hired as Deputy Chief about a year ago, and has served as interim Chief since Amy Walker retired to take a job in the private sector in October of last year.

Lange noted how DiGiusti "has conducted himself and led the department over the last three months" in making his selection.

Lange says the way DiGiusti responded to citizen questions at a recent public forum also played into the decision.

DiGiusti will earn a yearly salary of $87,000 as Ypsilanti's Chief of Police.
