Ypsilanti Community Schools Board Approves Budget, Names New Superintendent

Bob Eccles

The Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education last night approved a 2014-15 budget that anticipates the district losing 275 students.

Former Superintendent Scott Menzel says the budget also accounts for changes to the amount of foundation grant money the district will receive from the state.  He says the budget is relatively conservative, "knowing that there are still some things we won't know until the fall."

Among the issues yet to be determined - how many teachers the district will have on the payroll.

The board also approved a one-year contract with former Willow Run Superintendent Laura Lisiscki to take over as Superintendent of Ypsilanti Community Schools.

A short-term contract was decided upon given the fact that all seven seats on the Board of Education will be up for election in November.

Lisiscki had been serving as Associate Superintendent under Menzel, who can now devote all of his attention to his job as Superintendent of the Washtenaw Intermediate School District.
