Ypsilanti Community Schools Board To Consider Balanced Calendar And Elementary Re-Alignment

Patrik Holubik

The Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education holds a special meeting Monday evening to consider a preliminary balanced calendar recommendation and three proposals for re-configuring district elementary schools.

The district wants to institute a balanced calendar - basically year-round school - in select buildings next school year.  The Balanced Calendar Study Team will present its preliminary recommendation to the board Monday evening.

A work group made up of community members, parents, teachers and staff have been looking into how best to use district elementary schools next school year.

The group has considered factors such as district enrollment, facilities audit data, and where Ypsilanti residents sent their children to elementary school when they choose a different district.

Three elementary school configuration options will be presented to the board at Monday's meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Ypsilanti Community Schools Administration Building, 1885 Packard Road.
