Ypsilanti Hosts Public Safety Forum

Bob Eccles

Ypsilanti residents have the chance to learn more about their pubic safety departments at a public forum Thursday evening.  The forum will include presentations from the police and fire departments, along with emergency preparedness, code enforcement and the prosecuting attorney.

The meeting is called "Public Safety: How it Really Works."

Ypsilanti City Manager Ralph Lange says the city is excited to be providing good service, and to be building up the police and fire departments.

"I think right now we've had a total of either hired or scheduled to be hired seven fire fighters, and right now we have seven new police officers," Lange says. "Now we still have four more to go in the police department, but that's a long cry from constantly losing police officers and fire fighters and never hiring them."

Lange says the relationships between law enforcement agencies and their communities have been in the national spotlight a lot lately, and tonight's forum gives Ypsilanti the chance to showcase the good work everyone involved in public safety does, and to be more interactive with the community.

The forum starts at 6 p.m. at SPARK East, 214 W. Michigan Ave.
