Spring clean-up and community beautification projects will be found throughout Ypsilanti on Saturday.

Saturday marks the 18th annual "Ypsilanti Pride Day."  A thousand, or so individuals are expected to help with endeavors such as picking up litter, weeding, planting flowers and painting. Ypsilanti Mayor Paul Schreiber says groups of volunteers will be working at 45-different locations throughout the city. Schreiber says  the community-wide event "brings businesses and community partners together to foster pride an encourage business growth by creating a clean, welcoming environment."

For the first time, An organized group of Eastern Michigan University students will participate. Megan Anthony is a member of EMU's VISION office and co-coordinator of the campus volunteer group. She says more than 100-students have signed up to work on projects in Frog Island Park, Depot Town and at the historic water tower.

Mayor Schreiber says Saturday morning will be spent cleaning up the community and then volunteers will be treated to lunch and entertainment between noon and 2 pm at Recreation Park.
