About a half-million people come to Washtenaw County every summer to check out the Ann Arbor Art Fairs.  Some of the people behind that successful event are hoping to create a new tradition bringing together art and the holidays.

One of Ann Arbor's four art fairs is marking its 45th anniversary this year.  It's not just the weather that officials with the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair are celebrating.

Beyond a piece of art you bring home, mostly visitors are left with only memories of each year's Ann Arbor Art Fair. One booth has been recording those memories for years.

From little kids holding their parents hands to adults clutching some art on a stick, Courtney Kistler asks a simple question, "Hey wanna be on TV?"  Kistler is a production assistant with Community Television Network, or CTN.

She says people typically talk about what they like of the art fair or a new purchase, but it's a free open mic so she hears some interesting stories as well.  "We had a guy who was from India give a little bit of his life history and then he talked about himself in Hindi as well.  So that was pretty cool."

With about 1,000 artists on hand Ann Arbor's Art Fair gives visitors the chance to check out nearly as many unique art forms.  There also are several places where you can see artists at work.

Half a million visitors are expected for this year's Ann Arbor art fairs. Traffic tie ups and parking shortages are bound to follow. 89-one WEMU’s Andrew Cluley opted to use the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority’s Art Fair bus this year.

In less than ten minutes the art fair bus took me from free parking at Briarwood Mall to the edge of the Summer Art Fair on State Street.  The early morning bus was full with people enjoying the cooler than normal weather.
