Driving around the Ann Arbor-Saline Road area can be like waiting for a slow train, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission begins Stage 2 of its Ann Arbor-Saline Road Improvements project Friday.

Northbound lanes will be closed between the eastbound I-94 on ramp and Eisenhower Parkway.

The southbound lane closures at the Main Street intersection and the south side of Northbrook Drive and Oakbrook Drive will remain in effect.

Events Focus On Opioid Addiction, Recovery

A series of events over the next couple of weeks aim to address the issue of opioid use in Washtenaw County.

Glynis Anderson is founder of Home of New Vision, which is hosting a public awareness event Thursday evening at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with remarks from a nationally-recognized expert on addiction, treatment and recovery.

Anderson says a workshop Friday is designed to help those who've recovered from opioid addiction share their story of recovery.

Washtenaw County like most places in Michigan has plenty of roads that need work, particularly after the harsh winter we had this year.  The Washtenaw County Commissioners have opted to form a committee to study options for fixing the roads rather than levy a .4 mill tax in December.

The grand-opening of Ann Arbor's new skatepark is a month away, but news that skating legend Tony Hawk will be at the opening has the skating community freaking out.  President of the Friends of the Ann Arbor Skatepark Trevor Staples says Hawk and several other professional skateboarders will give demonstrations as part of the opening event.

Since January the city of Ann Arbor has been receiving invoices from the Humane Society of Huron Valley for animal control services.  City Council member Jane Lumm says the city doesn't have a dedicated funding source to cover the full cost, but made a step in the right direction with an amendment in next year's budget.

Ann Arbor's efforts to reduce carbon emissions through the climate action plan received a boost in next year's budget.  Council amended the $98 million general fund budget to include $125,000 for advocacy and education programs around reducing energy use.

The art moderne facade on Ann Arbor's Greyhound Bus Station will be preserved as the building is torn down for a new six story building.  The plannning commission Tuesday night will consider the site plan for a nearly 90,000 square foot building at Huron and Ashley.
