A five mile test track on University of Michigan's North Campus may be the birthplace of the next generation of vehicles.  The Michigan Mobility Transformation Center hopes to be testing automated and connected vehicles by September.

One of Ann Arbor's oldest parking structures is getting a $5 million update.  The Downtown Development Authority has approved an improvement plan for the building at Fourth and William.

The final ReImagine Washtenaw Report outlines changes designed to make the five-mile stretch of Washtenaw Avenue between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti more transit-centered and bike and pedestrian friendly.

The plan calls for improvements such as large center medians and buffered bike lanes. 

Communities along the corridor are expected to soon begin making some of the smaller changes outlined in the plan, like connecting sections of sidewalk that currently have gaps between them.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Arbor Day Foundation have given 125 communities in the state the "Tree City USA" certification for their efforts in 2013.

The program promotes proper tree management in urban areas and awareness for the economic, health and aesthetic benefits of trees.

Among the local communities receiving "Tree City USA" designation: Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Saline and the Village of Dexter.

Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority riders can expect later service hours coming in August after voters in three communities approved a new transit tax.  The More Buses campaign is declaring victory with about 70 percent of the votes supporting the measure.

Through June 2nd parents from across Washtenaw County can again apply for schools of choice seats in Ann Arbor Public Schools.  The district has gained about 600 students for next school year, but still hasn't filled all of the 750 choice slots initially offered.

Convicted felons applying for a job with the City of Ann Arbor will have a little less to worry about. Ann Arbor City Council Monday night considers a resolution eliminating the Felony check-off box from municipal job applications.

Northeast Ann Arbor residents have raised concerns about the deer population for some time, but council member Jane Lumm says the issue seems to have really spiked in the last couple of years.  City Council Monday night will consider a resolution to have the city partner with a variety of other organizations to develop a deer management plan.

Washtenaw Community College faculty has overwhelmingly approved a no confidence vote for the school's president, but she still has the support of trustees.

Ice still covers over 20 percent of the Great Lakes surface, following a winter that nearly saw records set for the total amount of ice coverage.  As one would expect Lake Superior leads the way with about 41 percent ice coverage, but even Lake Huron was still one-quarter ice covered this week.

Web Hosting Firm Opening Office In Ann Arbor

A Lansing-based Web hosting company hopes to open shop in Ann Arbor later this year.

Liquid Web would like to hire 75 people to work in Ann Arbor over the next three to five years.

"We do have some property that we have just purchased in Ann Arbor that we are looking to hire some new people to work with us over there," says Liquid Web spokesperson Cale Sauter.

Liquid Web will move into property at 315 West Huron Street in Ann Arbor. 

Sauter says they'll start with about 20 people who'll mainly handle 24/7 web and technical support.

As University of Michigan students prepare to leave town for the summer one common place to stop is the intersection of Oakland, East University, and Tappan.  The city of Ann Arbor has once more set up dumpsters for bulk recycling and trash in the area.

For years Republicans and Democrats across Michigan have raised concerns about the state’s personal property tax.  Voters in August will decide if a solution to phase-out the tax and reimburse local governments can go forward.

Several hundred people learned more about oil exploration and mineral rights leases at Scio Township Thursday night.  Township officials held an informational meeting at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District facility on Wagner with a variety of experts because West Bay Exploration has leases to explore about one-thousand acres in the township. 


Uber Now Operating In Ann Arbor

The Uber on-demand motor transportation company is now operating in Ann Arbor.

Michael White is General Manager for Uber in Michigan.  He says Uber is partnering with licensed limousine companies in Ann Arbor.

"And they're going to provide kind of a luxurious service," White says. "So imagine a luxury sedan or black car, something like a Lincoln Town Car or Cadillac DTS, with professional chauffeur."

White says the lower-cost Uber-X service pairs passengers with drivers of standard sedans in a ride-share model.

PR Fitness Boston Marathon Runners

An area runner will return to the Boston Marathon this year partly to show he will do what he wants to do and isn't letting fear stop him.  Police stopped John Farah just blocks from the finish line last year when the first bomb went off.  

Farah is one of about 30 area runners that train with PR Fitness and will be running the Boston Marathon Monday.  Farah thinks the race will be safe this year as he runs Boston for the 19th time.
