Peters sees greater chance for bipartisanship as he enters Senate in minority

Democrat Gary Peters is optimistic he will be able to work with Senate Republicans to pass measures he has championed as a candidate. That's despite the fact that he will be entering the U.S. Senate in the minority party after Republicans seized control in Tuesday's election.

Peters believes he will get bipartisan support for some of his priorities. Those include opening up more loans for small businesses and helping people burdened with student loans.

The Associated Press is reporting that Democratic US Rep. Gary Peters has defeated former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land for US Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Carl Levin.

The Detroit Free Press projects Republican Governor Rick Snyder will win re-election, defeating Democrat Mark Schauer.

Land and Peters agree: U.S. should consider travel ban to prevent Ebola outbreak

The Republican and Democratic candidates for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat both say they would consider banning travel to and from countries experiencing Ebola outbreaks.

The first case of Ebola in the U.S. was recently confirmed by health officials in Texas. The man had come into contact with the virus in Liberia before traveling to the U.S.

  The campaign of Republican Michigan U.S. Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land says it raised about $2.15 million from donors in the latest quarter and got an additional $1.2 million from Land herself. Democrat Gary Peters says his campaign raised $1.95 million.

Peters files nominating petitions for US Senate

Congressman Gary Peters has filed petition signatures to put his name on the ballot. Peters is a Democrat running to succeed retiring US Senator Carl Levin. Peters' support for the federal healthcare law has been an issue in the campaign. Peters says that's OK with him.
