The Michigan House Elections Committee has passed legislation to change how much time petition organizers have to gather voter signatures.

A state House committee will review a bill Wednesday which will limit the time frame to gather petition signatures to 180 days.

Drug overdose deaths in Washtenaw County declined last year, according to county health department officials. The survey also uncovered a disturbing trend--the drug fentanyl is being found in more overdose cases than in previous years.

Removing barriers to citizen science in the name of more and better data about Michigan waterways and watersheds. That's the aim of a bill introduced by Representative Gretchen Driskell. The Saline Democrat says the measure will remove bureaucratic red tape and expensive permitting fees from data collection in our watersheds.

It's ball one in Scio Township.  A Traverse City-based oil and gas company was looking for a strike as it dug its first exploratory well in search of fossil fuel deposits, but missed the plate.  Some local lawmakers and drilling opponents now hope to get on base in Lansing.

Michigan lawmakers will likely have less money than earlier projected to put into next year's budget.  The revenue estimating conference takes place Thursday, but the House Fiscal Agency is anticipating $873 million dollars less in state revenues for this year and next compared to the January conference.

Several hundred people learned more about oil exploration and mineral rights leases at Scio Township Thursday night.  Township officials held an informational meeting at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District facility on Wagner with a variety of experts because West Bay Exploration has leases to explore about one-thousand acres in the township.

Lyndon Township’s planning commission isn’t expected to make a decision on a special land use permit for a sand and gravel mining operation until this summer.  About 30 people spoke out against the proposal as a public hearing wrapped up Thursday night.
