Amanda Edmonds Files Nominating Petitions


Amanda Edmonds has filed the required number of nominating petitions for her name to appear on August primary ballot in the race to be Ypsilanti's next mayor.

The Growing Hope Executive Director submitted her petitions Friday, according to Ypsilanti City Clerk Frances McMullan.

Mayor Paul Schreiber is not seeking re-election. There are no other announced candidates to replace him at this time.

Municipal candidates have until April 22nd to file nominating petitions with their local clerk's office.

Growing Hope is interested in finding out how much interest there is in a local garden supply store, and will open a pop-up shop for a couple of months this spring to find out.

Amanda Edmonds launches Ypsilanti Mayoral Bid

Growing Hope Executive Director Amanda Edmonds Tuesday night launched her bid to become Ypsilanti's next mayor with a party for supporters in Depot Town.

Edmonds said she believes her leadership skills are what the city needs to help it to continue to move forward.

Among those in attendance was current Mayor Paul Schreiber, who has announced he won't seek re-election.

Also on hand were former Mayor Cheryl Farmer and Washtenaw County Commissioners Yousef Rabhi and Conan Smith.

Ypsilanti Mayor Will Not Seek Re-election

A year from now, the City of Ypsilanti will have a new Mayor. Paul Schreiber announced over the weekend he will not seek re-election in 2014. Schreiber was first elected mayor in 2006, and will have completed eight years in office when next November's election rolls around. In his written announcement Sunday, Schreiber said he has enjoyed his seven years as Mayor, but now it's time to step aside to allow the next Mayor to lead the city.

Growing Hope Executive Director Announces Ypsilanti Mayoral Bid

Growing Hope's Amanda Edmonds

Ypsilanti Mayor Paul Schreiber hasn't said whether he'll run for re-election in 2014, but if he does, he'll face a challenge from Amanda Edmonds. 

The Growing Hope Executive Director is also vice-chair of the Ypsilanti Downtown Development Authority. She's vice-chair of the Washtenaw Food Policy Council, and was appointed by the Governor to a similar organization at the state level.

The 36 year-old is running as a Democrat.
