In an effort to improve "immigration instability," the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners will take a first look at a series of resolutions and policies during its Wednesday night meeting April 19th.

Washtenaw County Commissioner Conan Smith was directly involved in the creation of the policies, which, he says, are intended to make sure local communities are secure and stable.

The Ann Arbor Police Department has a policy that prevents them from asking residents about their immigration status.  Now, city council wants to add a new measure.

A peaceful “Immigrants' March” is planned for Saturday in Ann Arbor.  The march and rally will serve as a protest to recent immigration raids and arrests in Washtenaw County by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Ann Arbor public school officials want to make sure everyone associated with the district feels safe and secure in light of recent national and local developments affecting people of different nationalities and genders.


Residents and city officials are on alert in Ypsilanti. Today, Ypsilanti's expanded human rights ordinance takes effect. Among other things, it offers more protections to undocumented immigrants.
