Over 100,000 fans pack Michigan Stadium 6 or 7 Saturdays every fall.  The crowds also give the city's bars, restaurants, and hotels something to cheer about by boosting sales.

Football is coming to the Big House this weekend. A sold out crowd of over 100,000 will be on hand to see a game much different than what is played on Saturday afternoons in the fall.

Two of the biggest teams in soccer will meet this summer at Michigan Stadium.  Manchester United will take on Real Madrid in Ann Arbor on August 2nd, as part of the Guinness International Champions Cup.

Collegiate athletic events are big generators:  of excitement, of revenue, and of waste.  How can we cut down on the trash, while leaving the finances and fun intact?  In this month's installment of The Green Room, WEMU looks at game-day waste at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, and Michigan stadium in Ann Arbor.

Ann Arbor City Council has adopted a resolution asking the University of Michigan to decommission its electronic billboard outside Michigan Stadium.

The sign is the largest billboard in Ann Arbor and city officials say it's too large, too close to the road, and is distracting to motorists.

3rd Ward council member Christopher Taylor acknowledges he and his colleagues can't actually influence U-of-M's decision on this matter. The most they can do is ask the university to take the sign down.

Taylor doesn't expect council to spend much more time discussing the issue, instead focusing on other issues of mutual interest with U-of-M.

A portion of Main Street next to Michigan Stadium will be closed before and during all U of M football games this fall.

As WEMU's Andrew Cluley reports, Ann Arbor City Council last night approved the closures, citing a need for security upgrades.

The Michigan Wolverines kick off their home football season tomorrow, but getting there could be a real challenge for out-of-towners.  Hear more from WEMU's Andrew Cluley.
