NIK THOMPSON NAMED PERMANENT HOST OF SUNDAY BEST ON 89.1, WEMU

YPSILANTI:   89.1 Jazz host, Nik Thompson, has been named the permanent host of Sunday Best, Sundays 10a-1p, on 89.1,WEMU, Eastern Michigan University’s public radio station.  Thompson has been serving as interim host of the traditional jazz program since longtime host, Dr. Arwulf Arwulf, stepped down in early February.  Thompson will continue hosting 89.1 Jazz on Saturdays (5-8a) through the end of April when a new host will be named.

Robin Meloy Goldsby may have been destined for show business. She had the requisite musical roots –- her father, Bob Rawsthorne, played drums for the PBS program Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. She also had the early childhood experiences: Through her dad's involvement in Pittsburgh show business, she had the opportunity to act and play piano in various local productions.

WEMU (89.1 FM), the Eastern Michigan University public radio station, has dedicated its First Friday 5:01 Jazz Series at Ann Arbor's  Raven's Club to the memory of Jan Winkelman, a devoted jazz fan and listener, who died 8 March 2007. A fund has been established in his honor at WEMU to finance the series and other special performances.

It is said of Shannon Powell that he's part of New Orleans' musical DNA — that he knows things only local drummers know.

Powell, 49, is the A-list drummer in town. He's played with Dr. John, Harry Connick Jr., Nicholas Payton, R&B guitarist Earl King and Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
