 The City of Ann Arbor is always looking for ways to become more environmentally friendly and eliminate waste. In its efforts, Recycle Ann Arbor was recently awarded $51,500 in grants by the State of Michigan for two educational programs.

The average American household has twenty-four electronic devices—most are destined for the dump when we’re done with them.  We are upgrading at ever-increasing rates, and challenges to getting our discards recycled safely are mounting.  In this installment of 89.1 WEMU’s “The Green Room,” Barbara Lucas looks at what we can do to lessen the environmental impact of our love of the “latest and greatest” in electronics.

Recycle Ann Arbor hopes to raise awareness of what sorts of things can be re-used or recycled at a special "America Recycles Day" event.  Saturday's celebration at the ReUse Center will focus on helping people understand what sorts of things can be reused.

 

Christine Chessler-Stull is Outreach and Zero Waste Coordinator for Recycle Ann Arbor. 

She says lots of stuff that ends up in landfills doesn't have to go there.  And Saturday is your chance to help give those items a new life.

Recycling Drop-off Station now accepting Textiles

Recycle Ann Arbor's Ellsworth Road drop-off station now accepts textiles, including clothing, curtains, bedding, towels, belts, shoes and soft toys.
