In less than a month voters in the Ann Arbor and Whitmore Lake school districts will decide if annexation plans move forward.  Many Whitmore Lake voters have questions, but appear to accept annexation as the best option.

Ann Arbor and Whitmore Lake Public Schools voters will decide in November if annexation plans should go forward.  If they do it will be the second time a pair of Washtenaw Intermediate School Districts have merged in the last few years.

The Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education last night approved a 2014-15 budget that anticipates the district losing 275 students.

Former Superintendent Scott Menzel says the budget also accounts for changes to the amount of foundation grant money the district will receive from the state.  He says the budget is relatively conservative, "knowing that there are still some things we won't know until the fall."

Among the issues yet to be determined - how many teachers the district will have on the payroll.

The Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education has named Associate Superintendent Laura Lisiscki as the successor to Scott Menzel as Superintendent, at least on an interim basis.

The board Monday night unanimously voted to have Lisiscki take over as Superintendent after Menzel steps down at the end of June.

Lisiscki will lead the district into its second year, and the Board of Education would take up the question of whether to make her tenure permanent or search for a replacement after elections in November.

Ypsilanti Community Schools will be in the market for a new Superintendent at the end of June.

That's when Scott Menzel steps down from that position - a transition that was part of the plan when the Ypsilanti and Willow Run school districts merged.

Menzel says the school year isn't over, but he thinks Ypsilanti Community Schools is in pretty good shape.

Ypsilanti Community Schools officials continue to develop plans for year round schools.  The District plans on piloting a balanced calendar in one or two buildings starting in the fall.

When classes start in Ypsilanti Community Schools next week, there will be some buildings that won't be in use.

WEMU's Bob Eccles has a look at what'll happen with those buildings:

The newly-formed Ypsilanti Community Schools begin classes next Tuesday. The district results from the merger of the former Ypsilanti and Willow Run districts. Last year, each district faced bussing and transportation issues, in large part due to student crossover in the separate districts. As WEMU's Bob Eccles reports, the transportation system for students is expected to run more smoothly this academic year.

On September 3rd, classes will be held for the first time in the newly formed Ypsilanti Community Schools.

As WEMU's Bob Eccles reports, when teachers and staff had to work next Tuesday, they will do so without benefit of  union negotiated contracts.

The Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education has approved pay ranges for non-instructional staff. Some employees could earn bonuses up to ten percent of their pay, based on their performance.  The board last night approved a pay structure for employees such as paraprofessionals, instructional assistants, occupational and speech therapists, psychologists and social workers.  WEMU's Bob Eccles has a full report.

It's been three years in the making: The unification of the Ypsilanti and Willow Run School Districts becomes official today. WEMU's Bob Eccles has been covering the merger since the conversation first began, and takes a look back at the process that brought us to today.

An organizational meeting this morning wraps up eight months of intense work and preparation for the creation of the Ypsilanti and Willow Run School Districts. Bob Eccles has a preview of today's first-ever session for the new Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education.
