sewage overflow

There are roughly 48,000 on-site septic systems in Washtenaw County, according to the Washtenaw County Environmental Health Division.  State statistics show that at any given time 10% of those systems are leaking and in need of repair.  In this week’s "Issues of the Environment," WEMU’s David Fair talks with Michigan Department of Environmental Quality’s David Cotton about the growing number of these systems and how to protect our land and waterways.

When people hear about "water problems" they're paying very close attention these days especially in light of what is going on in Flint.

Ann Arbor City officials just announced a major sewer overload situation that spilled hundreds of thousands of gallons of sewage into a tributary of the Huron River.

I spoke with the city's water quality manager Jennifer Lawson about what happened...

Saline officials think their staff did a good job responding to on overflow at the wastewater treatment plant. About 29-thousand gallons of partially treated sewage got into the Saline River yesterday.
