Michigan lawmakers are working to draw more medical providers to low-resource areas by raising caps for a loan repayment program for health professionals in those areas.

  Due to inaction on the part of the US Congress, student loan interest rates have doubled. Unless congress takes action upon returning from summer recess, those rates will stick for any student taking out a loan after July 1st of this year. As WEMU's Bob Eccles reports, eastern Michigan University officials hope congress will return loan rates to lower levels but, either way, will be there to provide counsel to students.
