One man was killed this afternoon and another injured in an explosion at the Dexter Utilities Department.
Dexter Area Fire Department Chief Loren Yates says his department responded around 1:39pm. When they arrived, they found two injured men on the roof. Chief Yates says it appears the men were using torches inside a processing tank when the flames ignited methane gas, causing the explosion.
The injured men were taken the the University of Michigan Hospital, where Ann Arbor dot com is reporting one of the victims died. The other is said to be in stable condition.
It's been exactly one year since an F-3 tornado tore through the Village of Dexter, damaging some 400 homes, with 36 of those homes suffering major damage.
Dexter Village Assistant Manager Courtney Nichols says there 's still some repair work going on, specifically at the car wash and the laundromat. She says most of the homes have been repaired or re-built.
Nichols says it was very fortunate that the financial cost to the village was only $45,000, which mainly went to cover clean-up and tree removal service.
