A day after terrorist attacks in Brussels claimed by ISIS killed at least 31 people and wounded at least 270 others, police continue to search for a suspected accomplice.

The man in question, wearing a hat and light-colored jacket, was seen with two suspected suicide bombers on closed-circuit TV at the Brussels airport Tuesday morning, shortly before two explosions went off at the airport and one bomb was set off at a metro station.

It's fundraising time at WEMU and we are asking you to rise to the challenge and help shrink WEMU's pledge drive.  Our goal this spring is $200,000 and here's the deal.  As soon as we reach the midpoint of $100,000 we will stop fundraising until Monday morning.   Just stop entirely.

If Ellen Can Do It, So Can WEMU

This photo raised $3 million for charity.

Maybe $3 million is a stretch, but we must have your support now to reach our $200,000 spring pledge drive goal by Thursday evening. It might not be an Academy Award but you'll definitely feel like a winner!

The Great Gatsby  opens in theaters this weekend!  In this week's installment of  Cinema Chat, WEMU's David Fair and  Russ Collins discuss several film options for the weekend and preview the upcoming Cinetopia Film Festival. The conversation began, however, with some sad news out of Hollywood.

Wait Wait Don't Tell Me Trip - May 16th & 17th

Apr 8, 2013

Please Join us for the Third Annual WEMU “Wait, Wait… don’t tell me” Windy City road trip!

2013 Dates: Thursday and Friday, May 16 & 17th, 2013 - In beautiful downtown Chicago!

WEMU has teamed up with the Humane Society of Huron Valley to add another fundraising option during WEMU’s spring fundraising campaign.  Donors who select the special CD premium, NPR’s Driveway Moments:  Cat Tales or Dog Tales CD will have $5.00 of their contribution go to the Humane Society.  There are other options to add funds for the Humane Society as well.

“WEMU and the Humane Society already have several common friends. Pets, and especially rescue pets, are hugely important to our staff and to our audience.  When I saw these CDs I saw a great opportunity for us to work with one of our outstanding community organizations for our mutual benefit.  We’re looking forward to a friendly competition among our donors to see which CD generates more support.  If it’s Cat Tales, our donation will go to cat adoption care.  If it’s Dog Tales, it’ll go to dog adoption care.  But, as we see it, everyone wins.” - Molly Motherwell, WEMU General Manager

Current WEMU donors have the opportunity to give through the recently-sent mail campaign.  WEMU’s on-air pledge drive runs April 4-11 and listeners may give online anytime at wemu.org.  WEMU will use its web page and Facebook page to promote the partnership and to post pictures of on-air hosts and their pets.

“Music and pets make life so much more enjoyable! We are very excited to be included in the WEMU Spring Fundraising Campaign. If our collaboration helps in any way to keep listener-supported radio alive and well in our community, we are glad to be a part of that.” -  Deb Kern, Humane Society of Huron Valley Marketing Director

Blue is more than a color – it is a basic musical form and blue is a mood. Madeleine Peyroux explores all aspects of blue with her new CD The Blue Room. However, this isn’t a blues CD.
