Ypsilanti Community Schools First Graduating Class Gets Diplomas Tuesday Night

Ypsilanti Community Schools' first graduating class receives their diplomas Tuesday evening at the EMU Convocation Center.

Not only will this be the first group of seniors to graduate from Ypsilanti Community High School following the consolidation of Ypsilanti and Willow Run Schools, but Ypsilanti New Tech High School is celebrating its first graduating class after opening four years ago.

Ypsilanti Students Marching In Protest Of Unjust Suspensions

Members of the Youth Voice chapter at Ypsilanti Community High School are marching in a protest of unjust suspensions and expulsions.

A three-day march from Detroit to Lansing will end with a rally Wednesday morning at the state Capitol. 

Peri Stone-Palmquist is Executive Director of the Ypsilanti-based Student Advocacy Center of Michigan, which has been working on the issue of unnecessary suspensions and expulsions for a number of years. 

She recently succeeded in having the Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education adopt a "Solutions not Suspensions" pledge.

Grizzlies Fall in First-Ever Football Game

Ypsilanti Community High School lost its first-ever football game to Milan in a contest that took a couple of days to decide.  Friday night's game was suspended in the third quarter due to lightning, and continued Saturday afternoon.  The final score: Milan 13, Ypsilanti Community High 6.  The Grizzlies scored on a 34-yard pass from Mike Caldwell to Jalen Maxwell.  The extra point attempt failed.
