Clarinet Marmalade: The Jazz Clarinet Revival
Join WEMU's Nik Thompson for a pretty interesting course on the history of the clarinet at Cleary University.
The clarinet has been a preeminent and pioneering instrument in American jazz. The instrument has been integral from New Orleans to Chicago, and from the sounds of Dixieland to that of the Big Bands. Its rise to prominence likely peaked in the 1960s. After a “short” hiatus (relative to the history of the genre), the clarinet is experiencing a wide-ranging resurgence in today’s popular modern jazz scene. Join us in this class for a journey across 100 years of jazz musical history.
