Ann Arbor, MI – Ann Arbor School District officials are celebrating reductions in the achievement gap for African American, economically disadvanted, and special education students in most MEAP test results. Deputy Superintendent for Instruction Geraldine Middleton says several efforts led to the higher scores for minority groups, but she says work still needs to be done, particularly in writing skills. Achievement gap reductions over the last three years came as overall MEAP scores increased.

Ypsilanti, MI – The Washtenaw County Prosecutor's office is reviewing evidence in a series of sexual assaults and robberies that took place last year on and near the Eastern Michigan University campus. Ypsilanti Police and the EMU Department of Public Safety jointly investigated the incidents. A suspect was arrested on unrelated charges shortly after the first of the year and remains in custody. His identity won't be revealed until new charges are filed against him.
