Ypsilanti, MI – The Ypsilanti school district finished the 2006-2007 budget year in the black by over 700-thousand dollars. District chief financial officer Alan Dowdy says next year looks even better, with a predicted one-point-three million dollar operating surplus. Dowdy says an anticipated per-pupil spending cut from the state did not materialize, and retirement costs actually went down this past year. The district also made four million dollars in budget cuts earlier in the year.
