Whooping Cough cases on the Rise

Ann Arbor, MI – The Washtenaw County Public Health department says an outbreak of whooping cough continues to spread.
In the last six weeks, 19 confirmed and probable cases have been seen in the county. Oakland and Livingston counties have also reported cases of the infection.
Whooping cough can cause severe illness, especially in infants.
The Medical Director for Washtenaw County's Public Health department, Dr. Stan Reedy, says one of the keys to stopping the outbreak is to make sure kids are up to date on their vaccinations.

EMU Prof on History Channel

Ypsilanti, MI – An Eastern Michigan University military history professor is on his way to New York to tape a pilot program for the History Channel.
Rob Citino will be among a group of experts discussing controversial decisions made during World War Two, and mistakes made leading up to the "Battle of the Bulge."
The new History Channel series is called "Hard Targets". Citino is a nationally-recognized expert on both world wars and has written several books on the subject.

Schools get Energy Savings Award

Ypsilanti, MI – Ypsilanti public schools have exceeded original projections in the first 30 months of an energy reduction program.
Energy Education presented the school district with an Energy Excellence award last night. The district used 30 percent less electricity and reduced natural gas usage by 20 percent.
Energy Education vice-president Rod Bunker
says the results show that district staff and administrators are working together and are committed to reducing energy use which, in turn, helps the environment.
