Most recently a reporter with Detroit’s WJR-AM, Lisa Barry is a lifelong metro Detroiter with a wealth of broadcast experience.  She began her career covering the Michigan Governor’s Office and State Capitol in Lansing and continued on to stints with Detroit stations WXYT and WNIC in addition to WJR.  She is a seasoned interviewer whose resume includes conversations with U.S. Presidents, celebrities, and medical professionals.  Lisa has won numerous awards; among them the prestigious ‘Outstanding Woman in Communications,’ bestowed annually by the American Women in Radio and TV Association of Metro Detroit.

Ann Arbor Art Fair

 It's Art Fair time in Ann Arbor!  This is the 56th year for the annual event, which is actually four different art shows spread out over 30 city blocks. 89.1 WEMU'S  Lisa Barry spoke with the marketing director for the fair Karen Delhey and you can hear the interview here:    

President Susan Martin

   July 7th, 2015 is Eastern Michigan University President Susan Martin’s last day in office.  She leaves EMU 7 years to the day she started in the position.  She says it has been an emotional and moving experience as she steps down but after a one year sabbatical will return as an Eastern professor.

Today's US Supreme court ruling was based in part on the case of a Michigan couple, April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse.  Both nurses, they had gone to court hoping to formally adopt they children they are raising together.  We spoke to them in Ann Arbor this afternoon when the decision was announced this morning.

Michigan US Senator Gary Peters is joining those in support of today's US Supreme court decision upholding same sex marriage.  Senator Peters said "every year, we move closer and closer to fulfilling the ideals our nation was founded on-equality, freedom and justice."  You can listen to the entire interview here:

Almost everyone  has been touched by cancer either themselves or through a friend or family member.  A renowned University of Michigan cancer researcher, Dr. Max Wicha was just appointed to the National Cancer Advisory board by President Barack Obama.

A recent University of Michigan grad is making national news (and was even mentioned during Saturday Night Live!) as he runs across the country raising money for a good cause. I had a chance to speak with the man involved in "Project Gump," Barclay Oudersluys.

Local, live theater is one of the many benefits of living in Washtenaw County. One local theater production infuses old time music with a classic story designed to make theater goers laugh with their production of "The Philadelphia Story."

High school students from across Washtenaw County are seeing the legal process in action when the Michigan Supreme Court hears a case in Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. 89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry had a chance to speak about the event with  State Supreme Court Justice, Bridget Mary McCormack.

Even though there are no "teams" from Michigan playing in tonight's  NCAA championship game , the Ann Arbor area will be represented. WEMU's Lisa Barry recently sat down with local, Emmy-winning singer-songwriter David Barrett, to talk about how he connects with the NCAA Championship.

"Let's Have Some Church Detroit Style" will premiere at the Detroit Institute of Art at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 22 as part of the Free Press Film Festival.
