Additional Information Released On Possible Sale Of Eastern Michigan University's Fish Lake

Jay Sinclair

Eastern Michigan University released new e-mails about the possible sale of its KresgeEnvironmental Center, also known as Fish Lake in Lapeer.

The university released the information after Eastern alumnus Jay Sinclair hired a lawyer to appeal a Freedom of Information Act request that was originally, partially denied.  Sinclair says the e-mails don't really reveal much information other than concerns that Fish Lake supporters sent to the university.

"We still really don't know how far they had gotten on working toward the sale and whether they had buyers in mind or anything. We have nothing but rumors to go on."

In a statement sent to WEMU, university spokesperson GeoffLarcom says nothing has been decided about Fish Lake, but enrollment for the research facility is low.

Sinclair believes those numbers don't reflect others who use the site for field trips and class projects.  While the alumnus did not get the information he wanted he is still considering different legal options to get more documents that were not released.  However, Sinclair says he is encouraged by EMU's new presidentJames Smithfor releasing the additional e-mails.
