Ann Arbor's city council will meet tonight, and medical marijuana will be on the agenda.

Council is expected to approve a first reading of an ordinance that would create a local permit process to authorize a variety of medical marijuana facilities, such as dispensaries and product testing centers.

Council memberChuck Warpehoskifrom the fifth ward explains what the next step would be.

"We'll work out the specific details about where the different facilities are permitted. There's distance requirements--which is how close they are together--distance requirements in terms of proximity to schools..."

The city is moving forward with this after state officials passed legislationthat allows local governments to set up a permit process.
