Ann Arbor's Theatre Nova Hosting Open House

It's all about the playwright at Ann Arbor's newest theater non-profit.

TheatreNova officials expect to produce six world or Michigan premieres in 2015.

Artistic Director Carla Milarchsays they hope to help boost the careers of playwrights. "What we're hoping is that you'll see the people who are going to be Arthur Miller in 10 years, or August Wilson in 20 years.  You know, the really important playwrights that are up and coming on their way to stardom," Milarch says.

Aspiring playwrights and theater fans can also attend a variety of workshops and stage readings at Theatre Nova.

To share the plays with the widest audience possible all tickets will be pay-what-you-can, with a suggested price of $20.

They're hosting an open house Friday at Ann Arbor's Yellow Barn on Huron street from 5-7 PM. Theatre Nova's membership campaign kicks off later this month with shows to begin in March.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
