Art & Soul - The Performing Arts: A2SO Conductor Speaks Of 'Goosebump Moments Of Beautiful Music'

89.1 WEMU

On this week's Art & Soul, Lisa Barry and Jenn McKee are joined by the conductor of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, Arie Lipsky, and talk about the symphony's upcoming season which begins Saturday September 10th at Hill Auditorium.

The Symphony will begin its performance with the Shostakovich Festive Overture, which will include a rarely-heard optional brass ensemble played by area high school students from Huron, Pioneer, and Skyline.

Internationally known Pianist Jon Kimura Parker will be playing with the A2SO for a performance of Brahms 2nd concerto.

Lipsky says it's considered the king of piano concertos because of its difficulty, which will make it an exciting showcase for Parker and the orchestra.

We also discuss a number of other upcoming activities in our area, including "Dear Elizabeth" at Theatre Nova and "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at the Ann Arbor Civic Theatre.
