Board Approves New Homework Policy

By Andrew Cluley

Ann Arbor, MI – The Ann Arbor school board hopes it has addressed concerns raised by students in meetings last year over homework levels.
Wednesday night, the school board approved new homework policies. Board member Helen Gates Bryant says the district's teachers and administrators now must work on setting specific guidelines for each grade level.
She says the strength of the new policy is that it requires teachers to differentiate assignments to meet the individual needs of students and their access to educational and technological resources.
The policy also states that homework should not be a substitute for classroom instruction, or used for disciplinary purposes.
