Center For Digital Engagement Fills Social Media Certification Void

Social media is a valuable marketing tool for businesses, and expertise in the field is a highly sought after commodity.  Eastern Michigan University's new Center for Digital Engagement is taking students and clients to new online heights.

Center Director, Professor Bud Gibson, says the center is a win-win-win, with students the first winners.

"Students get exposure to the world of digital," Gibson says, "but digital engagement extends beyond just marketing.  It's digital communications within the firm and between firms, so students benefit."

Gibson says the center also benefits the community and the EMU faculty as it helps pave the way in the always-changing digital world.

Chad Wiebesick is Director of Social Media and Interactive Marketing for the Pure Michigan campaign.

He says the Center for Digital Engagement will accomplish several things.

"It's going to assist businesses in that community and beyond identify talent, and potential employees who have this skill," Wiebesick says.

He says the center will also provide certification that's lacking in the social media industry.
