Don’t expect any major changes in Ann Arbor city government after yesterday’s election. A few names may be changing but most of the policies are expected to remain the same.

Current Ann Arbor City Council member Christopher Taylor easily claimed Mayoral victory over independent challenger Bryan Kelly. Taylor says outgoing Mayor John Hiefjte has the city on a good path. “I ran saying time and time again that Ann Arbor is going in the right direction and I believe that was ratified by the voters today and in August.  I expect to be continuing on in that direction, and so if the voters perceive where we are today, I think they’ll like where we are tomorrow,” Taylor says.

Bryan Kelly says regardless of the outcome it was a good experience and he hopes it will help him in a future campaign for office.

The five council races were all uncontested.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
