City and Township to Study Fire Department Cooperation

By Bob Eccles

Ypsilanti, MI – The framework has been set to study how the Ypsilanti city and township fire departments might work together to improve service and save money.
City council approved a resolution Tuesday night establishing a study group to examine the idea.
Governor Granholm has proposed a change in state revenue sharing that would reward cities and townships that can show they share services.
The study group will be made up of councilmember Brian Robb, a township trustee, the fire chiefs of the city and township, and the firefighters' union presidents.
The group has a September 30th deadline to deliver a proposal on how the city and township fire departments can cooperate.
