Today is your last day to register to vote in the August 7th Primary Election. There is plenty of election -related activity going on this week and som other items of community interest and engagement, too. • Another reminder that today-Monday, July 9, is the last day to register for the Aug. 7 primary election. Check your registration status at Michigan.gov/Vote.
• The Aug. 7 primary election is nearly here – don't wait til the last minute to see what's on the ballot. Go to Michigan.gov/Vote to get your sample ballot. On CivCity's AnnArborVotes.org, Ann Arbor voters can find profiles and other info on local candidates as well as details of the ballot proposal – a tax renewal for the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority. The League of Women Voters Vote411.org is another great resource.
• Speaking of the League, on Monday, July 9 Democratic Party candidates for Washtenaw County Commissioner in Districts 2 and 9 and for State Senate District 18 will answer questions at a League of Women Voters forum.(There are no competitive races in the Republican Party primary.) Watch the forums live on Community Television Network Channel 19. The videos will be posted later this week on CTN's YouTube channel.
• On Sunday, July 15, candidates for Ann Arbor mayor and Ward 2 city council will be featured at a forum hosted by the Orchard Hills-Maplewood Homeowners Association at the Traverwood Library starting at 3:30 p.m. Click here for details.
• The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners is looking for input about a draft racial equity ordinance. On Monday, July 9, they're holding a feedback session starting at 6:30 p.m. at the downtown Ann Arbor library, 343 S. Fifth Ave. Monday’s session will include a presentation about the draft ordinance as well as the "One Community: Advancing Racial Equity in Washtenaw County" initiative. • Finally, you've probably heard that the City of Ann Arbor has increased water and sewer rates for most residents, effective July 1. Check out this bill calculator to see what your new charges will be. The city also provides a consumer's guide to answer common questions about tap water, including tips on how to reduce usage.
