Court Project Back to Square One

By Andrew Cluley

Ann Arbor, MI – Ann Arbor officials are back to square one on finding a new location for the 15th district court and a new police headquarters.
City council failed Tuesday night to approve a one-million dollar design budget with Quinn Evans Architects, coming up one vote short of the eight votes needed.
City council member Chris Easthope says he's disappointed with the outcome because too much time and effort has gone into the project to have it thrown out.
However, Mayor John Hieftje says with the city's difficult budget position, he can't vote to spend a million dollars designing a building the city may not be able to afford.
The city has to find a new location for the 15th district court because the county won't renew the lease in it's current location beyond 2009.
