To help address the concern of deer damage on private gardens and local parks, a deer doctor will give a presentation this Saturday in Ann Arbor.
Sandy Baker will provide residents with a five step strategy that includes learning about deer behavior and repellents.
Tanya Hilgendorf is the the president of the Humane Society of Huron Valley. She says out of 900 local residents who reported deer damage in Ann Arbor, 700 said they did not take measures to prevent the damage.
"That speaks to, we need to be trying different things. We should never have taken up guns as our first strategy."
Hilgendorf added that education on deer behavior could solve many issues and that killing the deer is not the best option. The city allowed a deer cull last winter to help with the population control and they plan to do it again later this year.
City council members have been invited to the presentation that will take place on June 4th from 10:30 AM to noon at the Traverwood Library. Space is limited, so an RSVP is recommended.
