DTE Restarts Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant

DTE Energy Co. has restarted its Fermi 2 nuclear power plant after reinstalling a reactor cooling water pump that had failed and limited power output.

The plant resumed generating electricity late Monday and was at about 40 percent of power this morning.  The utility says the plant will be brought to full power for the first time since June 2012, when a pump broke. The plant in Monroe County's Frenchtown Township, near Monroe, was shut down Sept. 9 to reinstall the repaired and refurbished pump.  The failure of the pump had limited plant power to 68 percent.
