Effort to Recall Six Ann Arbor School Board Members is Rejected

AAPS

The Washtenaw County Election Commission on Thursday rejected ballot language that sought to recall six members of the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education.

As WEMU's Andrew Cluley reports, the commission voted unanimously to reject submission for lack of clarity.

The recall petition cited failure to consider constituent priorities, failure to demonstrate transparency in decision making, lack of a cohesive direction, and failure to provide sufficient support for the superintendent.

Jody Huhn is with the group that filed the recall petition, Ann Arbor Public Schools Parents for Change.  Huhn says she will meet with the group to decide if they want to file new recall language.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
