It’s Election Day for three Washtenaw County communities and the issue of enhanced transit service is at stake.
The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority is asking voters in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti Township to approve a five year, 0.7 mil levy to support increased evening and weekend service hours.
The issue has been both unifying and polarizing. Community groups have formed to oppose and support the millage.
Both groups believe expanded service is needed, but disagree on how to fund improvements.
The group “Better Transit Now” says service enhancements are entirely possible by streamlining operations and cutting costs.
The group “More Buses” fully supports the millage proposal.
The polls open at seven this morning and close at eight tonight. 89.1 WEMU will have the results for you online at www.wemu.org and you’ll get a full wrap up as part of Morning Edition tomorrow.
