Environmentalists Push For Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Extension

Great Lakes

Congress is halfway toward extending the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative for another five years.  The U.S. House has approved the legislation that authorizes funding the initiative at $300-million a year.

Todd Ambs is director of the Healing Our Waters - Great Lakes Coalition

He says the initiative sticks out - in a positive way - at a time when mistrust of the government is high.

"The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative really is a shining example of what the Federal government can do for us - and with us - on this very important resource that we all benefit from," Ambs says.

Ambs says along with getting the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Act of 2014 on the books, it's critical that Congress fully fund the initiative.
