About a half-million people come to Washtenaw County every summer to check out the Ann Arbor Art Fairs. Some of the people behind that successful event are hoping to create a new tradition bringing together art and the holidays.
The first Holiday Art Fair takes place this weekend at Eastern Michigan University's Convocation Center. The Guild of Artists and Artisans are bringing 100 exhibitors to the new event.
Executive Director Max Clayton says many of the artists will be familiar to people that attend the Ann Arbor Art Fair. "I'm actually pretty proud of the collection of artists that we will be having at the event. We're the same folks that do the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair, so some of these artists you will have seen in Ann Arbor and some haven't been back to Ann Arbor in awhile," Clayton says.
Clayton says the Holiday Art Fair is a chance to get unique handmade gifts for the holidays.
The event will also include a kids craft area and a gallery of work from Eastern Michigan University students.
The Holiday Art Fair runs from ten to six on Saturday, and 11 to five on Sunday.
