Foreclosure Prevention

By Andrew Cluley

Washtenaw County, MI – A 40 percent increase in the number of properties facing foreclosure in Washtenaw County has led the county to add another property tax foreclosure prevention specialist to the treasurer's department.
The county board of commissioners approved the new social work position Wednesday night. Treasurer Catherine McClary says county efforts to keep homeowners from losing their property because of taxes have been successful, but another employee is needed to keep up with increasing demand.
McClary says the county is also looking at grant funding for some programs that would try to help homeowners who are facing mortgage foreclosures, which are also on the rise.
