Higher Than Expected Enrollment means More Teachers for YCS

With a couple of weeks of school in the books, Ypsilanti Community Schools is seeing something it didn't really expect: class sizes large enough to warrant hiring some additional teachers.

Superintendent Scott Menzel says the elementary schools in particular are seeing higher than expected enrollment, and enrollment at Ypsilanti Community Middle School - Willow Run Campus is high enough that they're opening up part of the former Willow Run High School to house the STEM Academy.

Menzel says the district is also examining the configuration of its Small Learning Communities to best serve students.

The official fall student count date is October 2nd.  That's one of the dates used to calculate how much state funding school district's get.
