Homeless Advocates Launching Recall Effort

People upset with the recent eviction of residents of a homeless camp at the end of Burton Road in Ann Arbor are launching a campaign to recall City Council member Stephen Kunselman.

Kunselman asked the city to clear out the camp dubbed "Camp Serenity" after neighbors complained.   He says it's not safe to be camping in the winter.

"That is putting those people in a very dangerous situation where they could die from freezing," Kunselman says.

Andrew is a homeless man who asked that we not use his last name.  He doesn't see the danger.

"They have a worse change of surviving if they have to keep worrying about moving," Andrew says.

Kunselman says he's supported efforts to provide the  funding needed to give the homeless more options.

He points out that the homeless were camping on private property without permission, which is against the law.

Recall organizers will be crafting petition language to submit to the county elections office for approval.
