As a music teacher in the Ann Arbor public school district for 43 years, Linda Carter experienced many “Wonder Woman” jokes and comparisons sharing the same name as the woman who played the TV character with special powers.  She even learned they share the same birthday and hopes to meet her some day.

Carter was also president of the Ann Arbor teachers' union, the Ann Arbor Education Association. for 30 years. She says both positions took a lot of the same skills set to manage and maintain, and mixed well.

This past school year was her last on the job, and even though she’s now in her 60’s, Carter says retirement allows her to go for her daily run in the morning vs after school.

Carter says many of the changes as a public school teacher over 40 years came from state lawmakers and encourages them to visit schools in person to see first hand the results of those changes.  And she suggested they even try some of the school’s delicious food, suggesting Tator Tots as one of her favorites.  She says technology has also changed a lot during her tenure as an Ann Arbor public school teacher but adds even with all the benefits of that new technology, teachers need to still have conversations and talk with students face to face.

Linda Carter said she was most appreciative of the support of parents and area businesses and believes that continuing community support is paramount for the future of the Ann Arbor public school district.
