Meet Nitro: The EMU Police Department's Newest Member

The Eastern Michigan University Police Department has its first ever dog on the force.  "Nitro" is a 75 pound Belgian Malinois that will turn 2 years old in April.

Nitro lives with and is trained by EMU police officer Bridget Bofysil.  She says he eats a raw diet of meat, organ and bone.  He is trained primarily in explosive detection but can also help in other searches.

Nitro is one of 3 trained police dogs in Washtenaw County.
