November 2016 Washtenaw County Election Briefs: Board Of Education Races

These are the results of the many Board of Education races in and around Washtenaw County.

Ann Arbor Board of Education: 

Two of the three candidates running as a slate for the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education have won election and current board president Deb Mexicotte is out.  Jeff Gaynor and Harmony Mitchell took two of the three seats available.  Their running partner Hunter Van Valkenburgh failed to secure enough votes to unseat incumbent Simone Lightfoot.  Each winner will serve a four-year term. 

Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education:

Incumbents Meredith Schindler and Sharon Lee have won re-election to the Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education.  Each will serve for the next six years. 

Chelsea School District Board of Education:

Two incumbents have been voted off the Chelsea school board.  Steve Olsen and Laurel McDevitt are out, and Shawn Quilter and Kristen Van Reesema are in.  They’ll serve six-year terms alongside the lone incumbent winner in Laura Bush. 

Dexter Community Schools Board of Education:

It’s six-year terms for Julie Schumaker and Daryl Kipke on the Dexter school board.  Schumaker was an incumbent, and Kipke had been serving as an appointed member of the board.  This is his first election win and full term.  Dick Lundy has won a partial term on the Dexter school board.  It’s a term that will expire on December 31st of 2018. 

Manchester Community Schools Board of Education:

Karen Rothfuss, Thomas Mann, and Jeremy Koch have won their first terms on the Manchester school board.  They join Incumbent Christine Fegan in winning 4-year terms. 

Saline Area Schools Board of Education:  

Michael McVey and Dennis Valenti win six-year terms on the Saline school board.  Additionally, Scott Hummel has won a partial term on the board that is set to expire at the end of 2018.
