Two lucky Eastern Michigan University students had a chance to win one year of free tuition during the Eagles Vs. Western Michigan game at Rynearson stadium in Ypsilanti Thursday night. The activity was planned as a way for the university to say thank you to students for attending games.
EMU spokesperson Greg Steiner explained to WEMU news that the contestants were randomly selected, taken on the field during the game and watch as two "Swoops", EMU's mascot, try to hit targets with footballs on their behalf from 10 yards away.
Alex Theison of Manchester won a year of free tuition Thursday, worth $10,000, during EMU's football game against Western Michigan.
The 18-year-old and another student were on the field along with two people dressed as Swoop, the eagle mascot. The mascots had to throw footballs into a container 10 yards away.
Theison's mascot won, 5-4.
EMU has offered tuition prizes in the past but not as much as $10,000. A similar promotion is planned when the Eagles play Massachusetts on November 14th.
