Parking Structure Will Be Demolished

By Andrew Cluley

Ann Arbor, MI – Ann Arbor's city council has approved the Downtown Development Authority's plans to demolish a parking structure on the downtown's west side.
Tuesday night, council unanimously approved the demolition of the First and William parking structure. Mayor John Hieftje says council understood the need to tear down the unsafe structure last month, but delayed a vote to give motorists more time to find other parking options.
Hieftje says the structure is already closed due to safety concerns, so demolition will proceed quickly.
Once it's torn down and the site is cleared, about 50 surface parking spots will be available until city officials decide what should be built on the site.
