Ypsilanti City Council members moved ahead in a plan to build new low-income housing units at the Parkridge Homes development.

Council members unanimously passed the resolution transferring the deed of the Parkridge development to the city’s housing commission.

The deed needed to be transferred before it can be given to Parkridge LLC, private company that will demolish the current units and construct new housing.

Bonnie Wessler is a Ypsilanti city planner. “This public private partnership will have such a huge positive impact on the community," she says. "It’s really hard to overestimate it.”

Wessler says the deed transfer is the last step in a long process toward renovating the Parkridge Housing development.

She says construction could begin in March.
